When life throws you a curveball that takes the form of travel restrictions, one way to find solace is with a staycation. So, in an attempt to mentally flee the confines of the current pandemic, my husband and I decided to seek some rest away from Singapore’s many skyscrapers and the crowds of downtown. This led us to stumbling upon a piece of home with the opening of The Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore, a five-star resort in the Little Red Dot that epitomises the famous Thai hospitality.

Located within the grounds of the renowned Laguna National Golf & Country Club, Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore is only a 10- minute drive from Changi International Airport, 15 minutes from downtown and within close proximity to Jewel Changi Airport and Changi Business Park, with the hotel offering daily complimentary shuttle services to cater towards any guest’s desire for sightseeing, shopping, or even Shake Shack cravings.

As we arrived, among the first things we noticed were the sleek and modern façade and floor-to-ceiling glass windows bathing the spacious lobby with natural light. With soaring ceilings and a picturesque view of the golf course and pools, we were more eager than ever to tour the property and learn about the hotel’s facilities and services.

After a seamless check-in, we were escorted to our Deluxe Laguna Pool View room, one of 198 accommodations on the property that was tastefully furnished with natural tones and modern comforts. With a scenic view of the resort’s three swimming pools, we enjoyed two invigorating coconuts as a welcome beverage.

More than ready for a feast, we made our way to Greenhouse. As the name suggests, the restaurant is set amongst lush and forest-like surroundings with a panoramic view of the golf course. Offering all-day dining, the restaurant boasts five kitchens serving Thai, Japanese-Peruvian Nikkei cuisine, traditional Indian fare, Mediterranean dishes, and Chinese specialties.

Happy and with our bellies full, we commenced our tour of the property starting at The Shop, Singapore’s largest on-course golf shop. Located at the entrance of the Laguna Country Club, the shop features portraits of legends such as Tiger Woods and Sir Nick Faldo who have graced these very greens with their expertise.
With easy access to two 18-hole championship golf courses, the Masters and the Classic, and opportunities to hone your skills at the practice range, the resort is unquestionably a golf lover’s oasis and there is simply nowhere else in Singapore like it.

As we continued exploring the compound, it became apparent that the resort also boasts several spaces for hosting events. Opposite the main hotel sits eight double-storey Pavilions, each with its own private plunge pool. Currently, these can be used as day-event spaces for C-suite meetings, birthday celebrations, and VIP functions. For larger get-togethers, the Masters Lawn can also host up to 150 guests for an outdoor occasion while the 750sqm Laguna Ballroom can host 585 guests and offers unobstructed views of the golf course. With so much versatile space, there is no doubt that the resort is a fitting Indian wedding destination.

Desiring a quiet afternoon in a private cabana, we then made our way to the lap pool complete with Jacuzzi jet streams for lounging. Between working on our golden tans and taking a dip, we admired the clear views of the planes soaring overhead. As a late afternoon thunderstorm rolled in, we sought shelter at The Tee Deck Alfresco Bar & Grill, a casual dining space serving up Thai street food favourites such as som tam and moo ping alongside Western classics.

As the sun set, we made our way to the Devarana Spa that was enveloped in the alluring scent of Thai herbs that immediately transported us home. To commence our experience, we were treated to a warm infusion of ginger, fresh kaffir lime, and orange before being provided with a menu of essential oils to choose from. After heading to our private massage room, my Thai therapist outdid herself when treating me to the Devarana Signature Massage designed to combine Thai, Ayurveda, and Shiatsu techniques with Swedish and aromatherapy influences.

Invigorated from ninety minutes of pure pampering, we then freshened up and headed to Legends Bar for a pre-dinner aperitif. Located adjacent to Greenhouse in the same lush verdure, the bar serves up an innovative array of artisanal cocktails, premium wines, and bar bites perfect for an intimate rendezvous. After a day of immaculate food, sunshine, and indulgence, we were excited to settle into our large bed with our personal choice of pillow from the Dusit Dream Pillow Menu that allowed us to fully relax and get ready for another day of excellence at every turn.

After undisturbed sleep, we woke up bright and early to start the day with some physical activity. While the resort is most certainly a golf lover’s paradise, it also houses three tennis courts and the largest hotel gym in the East. The DFit gym is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and great views, but if you need some extra motivation, the resort also offers a range of activities encompassing aquatics, yoga, meditation, Zumba and tennis programmes for all age groups.

Following an hour of working up a sweat, we wandered over to Greenhouse for breakfast. As we sat down, we were promptly offered a breadbasket, plate of fruit, and some detox juice. As the pandemic is ongoing, breakfast is served in à la carte buffet style, with unlimited orders. Alternatively, you can also enjoy breakfast Dusit Gourmet where you are encouraged to browse their selection of freshly baked goods.

As we found ourselves craving quality time in Thailand with our families, the Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore opened up its doors at athe perfect time. As the resort’s professional team is a mix of Thai and Singaporean staff, the hums and echoes of “Sawadee ka and khrub” truly transported us to a tranquil resort in back at home.

As we checked out and waved goodbye to the courteous staff, we took another glance at the visually striking resort and immediately knew that we would be back soon to enjoy the warmth, spectacular settings, and Thai heritage that inspires every facet of the luxury property.
