For many series fans, it seems like we’ve been waiting a lifetime for follow ups to our favourite shows. Whether its Money Heist or Made in Heaven, I think it’s safe to say we’re all suffering from collective amnesia about what even happened last season, all thanks to delays brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic that have left us waiting dying for any new information.

But now that we’re all going to be home, glued to our Smart TVs and smartphone streaming apps until further notice, there’s no better time than the present to watch a bunch of series summaries on YouTube in anticipation for this year’s new releases because there’s plenty in store! Here’s our picks for what to look out for.

Everyone’s new favourite heist series saw its release this January with an initial five episode release. Inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin, a fictional gentleman thief and master of disguise created by author Maurice Leblanc, it follows Assane Diop (Omar Sy) as he sets out to avenge his late father. The last season ended on a massive cliffhanger so fans of the series will be thrilled to hear that the story continues next month. Netflix released a statement that said Lupin has become the streaming giant’s most-watched French-language original series of all time, so if you’ve not seen it yet, definitely do!

Fans have been waiting since March 2019 for a follow up to the hit show, and FINALLY the producers have come out to say that filming for the second season has resumed. Created by Zoya Akhtar, the series follows Tara (Sobita Dhulipala) and Karan (Arjun Mathur), two Delhi-based wedding planners as they navigate societal taboos, often coming to terms with stiff traditions clashing against their more modern dreams. Upon its release, the show was celebrated for its raw depiction of life in a very judgmental society, one where money, status, and the dream of having the biggest, fattest Indian wedding will always reign supreme.

This year will finally see the release of the fifth and final season of Netflix hit, Money Heist. A crime thriller series that still holds the title of being the streaming giant’s most-watched non-English title, with the fourth installment attracting a whopping 65 million viewers. With almost no information on the internet available about what trouble the Professor (Álvaro Morte) and the gang are going to get up to in this season, show creator Álex Pina only had this to say for those desperate for any info: “We’ve spend almost a year thinking about how to break up the band, how to put the Professor on the ropes, how to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters…the war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.”

The last time we had the cast of Stranger Things grace our screens was all the way back in 2019. The series from creators The Duffer Brothers first garnered attention because of its mix of 80s nostalgia and supernatural elements that parallels popular films from directors like Steven Spielberg. It has been confirmed that the entire core cast is set to return in the fourth installment, and while the plot remain under wraps for the most part, the creators have said that season 4 will see the characters travel outside of Hawkins, Indiana. While the team has not said whether this season will be the last one, it’s looking likely that a season 5 is also in the works.
