The most binge-worthy January releases on NetflixPrime and Disney+

YEH KAALI KAALI ANKHEIN (NETFLIX)

Starring Tahir Raj Bhasin, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, and Anchal Singh, this romantic thriller from the mind of Sidharth Sengupta is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. A tale of love, obsession, crime, and a healthy dose of political intrigue, the show follows Vikrant (Bhasin), described as a simpleton, who runs into Purva (Sharma), a powerful politician’s daughter who falls for him and will stop at nothing to make him hers. Desperate, Vikrant follows a dark path to try and escape her clutches in this eight-episode series that Shweta described as a “twisted game of love.”

Release Date: 14th January

THE ROYAL TREATMENT (NETFLIX)

If your holiday binge still hasn’t satisfied your sweet tooth, The Royal Treatment should do the trick. Starring Mena Massoud, of Aladdin (2019) fame, the Netflix Original film will see him once again don the mantle – or crown – of a charming prince, but this time, one born into royalty. The plot consists of the expected shenanigans that ensue after a royal falls for a commoner, in this case, a New York hairdresser (Laura Marano), but for those looking for some love and comedy in the new year, it’ll be sure to hit the spot.

Release Date: 20th January

SHANE (PRIME)

Cricketers and fans of ‘the Gentleman’s game,’ this one’s for you. Following the life and times of legendary cricketer Shane Warne, the former captain of the Australian national team in One Day Internationals, and widely considered one of the greatest bowlers in history, the documentary sees Shane’s transformation from an “unfit and fat” teenager rejected from the football team, and into the King of Spin. 

Release Date: 25th January

HIT MONKEY (DISNEY +)

For those who think animation should be relegated solely to kids’ shows, Hit Monkey will be sure to prove otherwise. An adult animated series based on Marvel’s eponymous comic book, the plot features an unusual protagonist in the form of a deadly Japanese snow monkey, who’s partnered with the ghost of an American assassin on his quest for revenge after his tribe was slaughtered by humans. With voice talents such as Fred TatascioreJason Sudeikis, and George Takei, the series is sure to hit some moving emotional beats.
