It’s quite rare to visit an establishment that strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and fun. Midway through Soi 22, just 300 metres from Emsphere, lies The Mesh on the ground floor of Four Points by Sheraton, Sukhumvit 22. This is a contemporary beer house and sports bar that offers a solid selection of food, strong yet refreshing drinks, and the opportunity to engage with others through board games, big-screen TVs, and a pool table. As for the bites, the menu offers a fusion of international and Thai-inspired flavours. Moreover, it is paired with BestBrewsTM programme which provides an extensive selection of local and international beers. Their “everything is connected” approach to The Mesh is a genuinely welcoming atmosphere that can accommodate casual hangouts, family-friendly gatherings, or even business meetings.

THE AMBIANCE

The Mesh has an instant inviting element to its dining, drink, and play environment. As my colleague and I strolled into a spacious welcoming, I was pleasantly surprised by its mid-century modern rustic design; the layout is picture perfect – mimicking the mint-conditioned images I had previously viewed before visiting. From the pristine pool table and large wall-mounted televisions at opposite ends to a showcase of board games and the shimmering polished bar, I had to properly take it all in as I caught myself smiling at the sheer generosity of the various stimulating activities. That is the actual concept of The Mesh: seamlessly connecting the drinking and dining experience with walking access to the soi’s shopping and entertainment realm of EmSphere and EmQuartier.

The sophisticated décor and interior give way to 180 seats, and it is open from 6 am to 1 am at night, with breakfast falling between 6 am and 11 am. The acoustics can get lively, but never to the point of disturbing your workflflow or playful vibes. The lighting is also exquisite, ideal for a photoshoot if you ever feel like taking a few glamour shots for the ‘gram.’ The outdoor seating can be inviting. However, I would suggest staying indoors if you plan on having an engaging conversation with family or friends; the noise pollution of the soi can be a tad overwhelming.

THE CULINARY SELECTION

Before we had the chance to salivate over the savoury choices on the menu, the staff brought out a few drinks to get us started. The house Latte (THB 120), with The Mesh logo sitting pretty as its top layer, presented us with a quick midday wake-up call. However, if you desire a little more kick to your caffeine, the bartender makes sure to add enough vodka to the Espresso martini (THB 290) so that there is no mistaking it for any other drink. Keeping in line with sips of confidence, the Strawberry piña colada (THB 290) offered a more refreshing take on the cocktails list, an ideal glass for brunch hour.

After quenching our thirst, in came the Kale quinoa salad (THB 260) – a nourishing bowl of baby kale and quinoa with cranberries, candied pecans, and topped with a zesty lemon dressing. The veg options continued with the Dal makhani (THB 320) and the Vegetable biryani (THB 380). Whether it’s the slow-cooked black lentils with paratha and mango achaar of the former or the bowl of fragrant basmati rice mixed with seasonal vegetables and mint raita of the latter, the menu has a few solid choices for our only-veg diners.

With a little heft, the tastebuds were treated to the Murgh makhani (THB 380) – beautifully cooked boneless chicken with creamy tomato and fenugreek sauce served with aloo paratha and tangy mango achaar. You can’t go wrong with a classic. However, we felt that the meatier options that followed may have stolen the show. The MESH burger (THB 430), in its double beef patty and buttery brioche bun glory, got better with every delicious bite. And if you happen to bring an out-of-towner with you to the show, the Pad Thai chai ya (THB 300), which is a twist on the traditional Pad Thai, can provide the right combination of exciting flavours with its stir-fried noodles in spicy tamarind sauce, crispy soft-shell crab, salted egg, peanuts, chives, and beansprouts.

THE MASALA CHOICE

Who would have thought the sweet ending to our meal would be the best of the lot? The ‘Twenty-Two’ cheesecake (THB 220) is what you would expect from an exceptional plate of this popular dessert. The texture is creamy, rich, appropriately decadent, and wonderfully balanced between tangy and sweet flavours. This is possibly one item on the menu where one slice may not be enough to fulfill yougluttonous desires. So, if there are any temptations, I guarantee every bite is worth giving into.
