Matching with your partner can be a fun and stylish way to show your affection. Whether it’s through coordinating outfits or using the same keychains, its positive effects can be wide-ranging. Aside from strengthening your relationship, putting thought into ways that symbolically unify you as a couple, can leave you with a sense of belonging.

However, if you are as averse to PDA as me, immediately obvious things like wearing the same T-shirt can seem too much, so we’ve put together a list of subtle ways to get you that endorphin glow, without resorting to filters.

CHOOSE A COLOUR PALETTE (pictured above)

Pick a few colours that you both like and coordinate your outfits around those colours. You could use different shades of the same colour as well. This look can be particularly useful if you are dressing for an event, since complementary colours work much better for the camera.

USE ELEMENTS OF THE SAME COLOUR/FABRIC

Each of you could use a single element of the same colour or fabric in your outfit, to enhance the feeling of cohesion. This could range from the more-common matching of a guy’s tie or pocket-square to his partner’s
outfit; or be more unique like matching a girl’s bangles and lipstick to her partner’s clothes.

ACCESSORISE TOGETHER

Matching accessories such as hats, scarves, or jewellery can add a funky yet fun look to your outfits without being overly matchy-matchy. Jewellery pieces that complement each other, instead of being identical, can
add an extra layer to fun to the equation.

SET APART SOME TIME

Lot of brands offer “his and hers” sets of watches that are designed to match. Looking for “his and his” or “hers and hers” pairs? Another option is to choose watches from the same series or those that have similar colours or materials, such as leather straps. Watches that come with removable bands can allow you to
pair even closer.

PLUG-IN TO EACH OTHER

Matching your gadgets with each other can be a cute way to always match. This is especially true if you match something like phone covers, since you always have your phones on you. Customise designs that are unique to each of your personalities, and are still in sync with each other; choose from a variety of beautiful couple sets available in the market; or simply buy the same cover in different colours.

PUT YOURSELF IN THEIR SHOES

Considering that men and women go for different shoe styles on most occasions, it can be hard to coordinate footwear. But when it can be done, like wearing the same sneakers on a trek, or choosing the same colour of kolhapuris to wear for a traditional sangeet ceremony; matching footwear can add an interesting twist to the idea of being together on the proverbial journey of life.

(Please forgive the metaphor, but at least something about a couple’s article nearing Valentine’s Day should be cheesy!)
