Those familiar with the local bar scene may already know about Vanilla Sky Rooftop Bar. Launched for 2017 New Year’s countdown, Vanilla Sky was a welcome addition to the many rooftop bars scattered along Bangkok’s skyline. Located on the 35th floor of Compass SkyView Hotel Sukhumvit 24, the intimate and spacious terrace delivers an incredible 360 degree panoramic view of downtown Bangkok; treating patrons to a sun-downer experience of new heights. The comfortable patio furniture with sleek design complements the establishment’s open and airy ambience. With a full-service bar, in-seat beverage service and a tempting selection of food, there’s nothing cliché about this open-air address.

Food and Drink

The menu comprises of local and western dishes, served in portions suitable for sharing and nibbling. The meal began with Tempura potato sticks (B175). Served with wasabi mayonnaise and tempura dipping sauce, delicious snacks are deeply fried to golden perfection with a crispy crust and tender centre.

To satisfy your Mexican cravings, the Shrimp quesadilla (B295) arrived next. Comprising of crispy tortillas stuffed with tender shrimp, cheese and onions, the mouth-watering appetiser is packed with flavour, especially when dipped in sour cream and tomato salsa. Speaking of dips, the Hummus-spinach dip (B275) served with oven-dried tomato salsa and crispy parmesan pizza bread, is another delicious selection among their variety of finger foods.

For those who are seeking healthier alternatives, opt for the Parma ham & melon (B350). The unique but simple combination is a sublime pairing of two delicate flavours, as smoky and salty slices of Parma ham are draped over sweet and juicy melon wedges. Meanwhile, Fiery chicken wings (B275) are a must-try for anyone looking to get their fast-food fix. The finger-lickin’ good wings are crispy, moist and drenched in a deliciously piquant chilli glaze and blue cheese sauce.

Vanilla Sky’s extensive selection of cocktails is created by expert mixologists. One of their signature concoctions is named after the bar itself. Comprising of Gordon’s gin, vanilla syrup, lime juice and pineapple juice, Vanilla Sky (B320) is as equally sweet as it is tart.

Another must-try is Taste of Asia (B320) which combines Smirnoff vodka, kaffir leaves syrup, lychee fruit and juice, as well as black pepper. With the distinct flavour of lychee and the refreshing aroma of kaffir leaves, this Asian-inspired drink is a blend of complex yet delicate flavours. Served next is the Dark & Dirty (B320). Exuding an intoxicating aroma, the refreshing cocktail is made from Smirnoff vodka, strawberry puree, raspberry puree, blackberry puree and lime juice.

Meanwhile, order the Mojjo’ Jito (B300) when you desire a taste of Cuba. The cocktail combines Pampero Blanco rum, mix berry shrub, strawberry, lime juice, mint and soda to give a smooth and exquisite taste. Lastly, Made in Bangkok (B280) is a Thai-inspired cocktail, comprised of Pampero Blanco rum, chopped lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, mint and soda. With its minty fresh and slightly sweet flavour, this innovative mojito is skilfully created to cool you off after a long day.
