Where do you feel most safe in the world? Maybe it’s the corner of your bedroom where stories come alive, a quiet green nook, or simply a state of mind untouched by worldly noise. Stepping into Akasha Wellness Bangkok, I found myself immersed in that exact setting – a sanctuary where time slows, and peace takes over.
The journey begins the moment you step through the striking red door, its vibrant colour symbolising vitality and life force. Walking through it feels like stepping into a pause – an invitation to simply be. The first thing that greets you as you step inside is the sound of flowing water – a universal symbol of cleansing and life. To your left, a sleek metal water feature spills gently into a pool filled with lily pads, the rhythmic flow softening the buzz of the city outside. Along the walkway, a tiered healing fountain becomes the centrepiece, its streams mingling with birdsong and rustling leaves.
Pamela Akasha Kaur
Designer and Healer
For Pamela, Akasha Wellness is a passion project that combines her love for design and healing. Drawing inspiration from her years in Singapore, where she taught yoga in a wooden-filled home near East Beach, she created an environment that feels grounded and timeless. “I’ve always loved wood – it’s warm, grounding and essential to creating an environment that nurtures,” she shares.
Her love for natural materials shapes Akasha’s aesthetic, where Middle Eastern carpets, baroque Indian doorways, and Moroccan motifs create a retreat both intimate and expansive.
Pamela’s vision extends into her work as a sound healing instructor, kundalini yoga practitioner, and guided meditation facilitator. “Many people tear up during Kundalini – there’s so much emotional release,” she explains. Her goal is to create a safe space where people feel supported enough to let their guard down, reconnect with themselves and find stillness.
"It’s not about touching your toes. It’s about being soft, slow and present - about letting go of everything you carry so you can truly feel."
Marisa Kaur Gutmans
Strategist and Connector
Marisa’s role is rooted in connection, ensuring that Akasha’s message of care resonates with the people it serves. As the PR and marketing lead, she’s focused on building a community around mindfulness and wellness. “We intentionally keep our classes small because too many people dilute the experience,” she explains. Pilates, yoga, sound healing, and even private events hosted by Akasha are done with intimacy in mind.
Marisa’s approach is about creating depth rather than chasing growth. Inspired by Simon Sinek’s Start with Why, she ensures that every aspect of Akasha reflects its core values. “We have to grow as a business, but it’s always backed by our message – wellness that’s intentional and mindful,” she says. For Marisa, Akasha isn’t about trends like calorie counting or weight loss. Instead, it’s about fostering longevity and mental health. Through thoughtful class curation, corporate wellness offerings and community-focused events, she ensures Akasha remains an inclusive sanctuary for both locals and expats.
"Come as you are, leave a little lighter."
Here, sensory details are carefully curated to calm the nervous system and bring you into the present moment. The warm sun filters through the trees, creating dappled light on the brick pathway. A soft breeze carries the earthy aroma of freshly watered plants, while climbing ivy descends the walls and roof, wrapping each structure in a green embrace. It feels as though nature has lovingly claimed the landscape, grounding you in its quiet rhythm. Akasha Wellness isn’t just a place – it’s an experience designed to care for you, help you find your centre, and to leave you feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected.
For smaller guided meditation classes and private yoga practices, as well as long-table events and workshops, the Mandala Room is the perfect backdrop. Its calming design starts with the Scandinavian-inspired architecture, setting a tone of lightness. The vaulted wooden ceiling and honey-hued floor add lightness and warmth. Suspended from the ceiling are sleek white pendant lights that cast a soft, even glow, complemented by a wooden ceiling fan that blends effortlessly into the room’s earthy palette.
Natural light pours in through the floor-to-ceiling glass doors, framed by soft, billowing white curtains. At the far end of the room, a hand-carved console cabinet anchors the space. Its distressed ivory finish, intricate detailing, and timeworn shades of cream and turquoise imbue the room with a rustic charm and character. Atop the cabinet, a mandala art piece rests, serving as a symbol of sacred geometry. The cabinet itself is adorned with crystals, candles and a Himalayan salt lamp, infusing the studio with warmth and intention.
Along the opposite wall, a gallery of carved arched mirrors reflects light, adding airiness to the room. Evocative of Indian and Moroccan artistry, they introduce an airier presence, reflecting light and balancing the room’s visual weight.
The Akasha Room is the largest and most expansive offering at Akasha Wellness, designed to accommodate everything from yoga, sound healing, and mobility physiotherapy, to larger corporate events and private parties.
The journey into the room begins before you go through the doors. To the side, a handcrafted wooden tray holds glass jars of herbal tea blends, a hammered copper teapot, and neatly stacked glasses, inviting guests to pause and sip something warm before their session.
Upon stepping into the Akasha Room, your eye is immediately drawn to the Tibetan gongs standing at the far end, their golden-bronze surfaces catching the light. Crafted from bronze alloys, the gongs symbolise self-realisation. Their size varies, and with it, their voice – each producing a deep, resonant tone that vibrates through the very walls of the room. When struck, the sound is not merely heard but felt. I could feel the resonance enter through the crown of my head, travelling down my spine in tingling waves of energy.
Beneath the gongs, an array of crystal sound bowls in shades of cream, peach and pale green rest on a woven jute mat. Nearby, Tibetan singing bowls hum with harmonic clarity, their earthy tones offering a lighter, meditative contrast to the gongs’ deep resonance.
Like the Mandala Room, the vaulted ceiling and climbing vines create an open, grounding canopy. To the left, floor-to-ceiling glass doors frame views of the courtyard gardens dissolving the boundary between indoors and out. Leaning casually near the glass doors, a large antique mirror with a weathered wooden frame echoes the visual language of the venue, blending seamlessly into its aesthetic. At the centre of the room, a low platform holds carefully arranged sage bundles, healing herbs and glistening crystals. Meanwhile, a delicate candle, surrounded by scattered orchid petals and amethyst geodes, brings a sense of ceremony and intention.
The Pilates Room is where mindful movement meets calm intention. At its centre, sleek reformer machines invite you to stretch, strengthen and realign with low-impact precision. Sunlight through glass doors and mirrors keeps the room light and airy. Here, movement feels natural and effortless, a quiet invitation to reconnect with your body and leave you a little taller, a little lighter.
