Masala picks our top 10 things to do on a rainy day.

You have your entire day planned out, and then it suddenly starts pouring and your plans are soaked! Happens all the time, doesn’t it? Well, fret not, because our city offers plenty of exciting indoor activities.

Pull out your credit cards and enjoy some retail therapy

A city renowned for its shopping centres, Bangkok offers so many options to suit various styles and tastes. These range from the extravagant Gaysorn Village and Central Embassy to the budget varieties that include MBK Center and Platinum Fashion Mall

It’s movie time!

Each mall has a floor dedicated to movie theatres, providing endless options for film buffs. So take your pick at the variety of cinematic experiences available, including luxurious theatres such as Enigma at Siam Paragon, or 4D adventures and single-screen cinemas like Apex Scala at Siam Square, the last of its kind in Thailand.

Have an out-of-the-box day with family and friends

Bangkok is home to a number of quirky indoor activities and the options are only increasing. Whether you want a relaxed evening ice skating or a fast-paced afternoon go-karting, you can find it all. If that’s not enough, opt for playing laser tag, solving mysteries at an escape room, or trying out stunts at a trampoline park. So much you can do while avoiding the rains!

Put on your learning caps and check out Bangkok’s museum scene

The city’s institutions can accommodate all culture vultures, and when better to visit these sites than during a rainy afternoon? Learn about historical Thai artefacts and treasures at the Bangkok National Museum, or familiarise yourself with a famous silk brand and the mystery of its owner’s death at the Jim Thompson House. Whatever insights you may seek, the city has got it all!

Call it a me-day and spend your hours getting pampered

We are lucky to be living in a beauty haven with spas and salons on every corner. So take time to unwind with a mani-pedi, hair treatment or an aromatherapy massage while it storms outside.

You shouldn’t need a reason to eat, but if you need an excuse, this can be it!

Indulge in some fun café-hopping at simple coffee shops, posh tea rooms and themed bistros. What better feeling than enjoying a delectable pastry with some hot tea while it is damp and dripping outside?

Strap on your Nikes for a pumped-up day

Get ready for an active day at the gym, where you can find Zumba, yoga, Pilates, spinning, and lots of workshops at various fitness centres in Bangkok. For a more unique adventure, you can even partake in rock climbing or indoor trampoline parks. These ought to get your blood pumping!

Enroll in a cooking workshop

When it comes to Thai cuisine, there is always something new to learn and try, so put on your chef’s hat and prepare to cook up a storm. You can also make it a date with your bae or friends, and enjoy a creative day together in the kitchen.

An experience for the eyes and ears!

Our capital city houses many establishments that offer interesting activities without urging us to be active. Plan a trip to SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World at Siam Paragon to meet some underwater creatures, or go to the nearby Madame Tussauds Museum Bangkok at Siam Discovery for a star-studded afternoon. You can also enjoy traditional Thai cultural (Siam Niramit Show), puppet (Aksra Theatre) or Muay Thai (Rajadamnern Stadium) shows. It is truly a feast for the eyes!

10 Use the weather as inspiration to get creative

Play Picasso for the day and paint what you see in nature onto a canvas. You can also join painting workshops across Bangkok and learn how to perfect those brushstrokes. A popular place for amateur artists is Paintbar Bangkok, located in Sukhumvit Soi 49, which combines art and nightlife by running painting classes in a bar. So why not try your hand here and get your creative juices flowing.
