The Oberoi Rajgarh Palace, Khajuraho, has earned a spot on TIME’s World’s Greatest Places of 2026. This is a great achievement for India's luxury hospitality scene, as it is making the country a more attractive destination for those looking for luxury and heritage travel experiences.

This palace is 350 years old at is it set in Maniyagarh Hills. It was originally built by Raja Hindupat Singh of the Bundela dynasty in the late 17th century. But interestingly it wasn't a palace before, it actually began as a fort. It was converted into a palace by Maharaja Chhatrasal after making Panna his capital.

The Oberoi Group leased in in the 1990's but the major restoration process began around 2018. The idea was to preserve its original grandeur while adding adding the luxuries and hospitality so that guest can experience its historic character while still enjoying modern comfort.

When guests steps out of the palace, they can explore the UNESCO-listed Khajuraho temples, famed for their intricate carvings, head out on a tiger safari in Panna Tiger Reserve, or simply take in the forests and rolling hills that surround the historic estate.

The property was also featured in Condé Nast Traveler's 2026 Global Hot List, further adding to the attention it has received since opening its doors to guests.

India was once home to many royal families, and its royal history can still be seen through the palaces scattered across the country. After royal titles were abolished, many of these palaces were transformed into luxury stays. The Oberoi Rajgarh Palace is one such example giving travellers the opportunity to experience a piece of India's royal past.
