JENNIE and Bollywood in Sync

JENNIE’s Solo Era Is Here and Even Bollywood Is Taking Notice

Grace Clarke

Jennie Kim, It-girl and member of global phenomenon BLACKPINK, just made a major solo power move with the release of her first studio album, Ruby, under her artist name JENNIE. Dropping on 7th March via Odd Atelier and Columbia Records, the album racked up an insane 29.6 million streams on day one, proof that she’s stepping into her solo era with full force. While all four BLACKPINK members have been carving out their own lanes, experimenting with different sounds and aesthetics, they’re still keeping that signature BLACKPINK magic alive. JENNIE’s Ruby is just the latest example of how they’re balancing individuality with their undeniable group legacy.

JENNIE’s second track on Ruby, the electrifying “like JENNIE,” has been causing a major stir online. With its high-energy beat, fierce choreography, and unapologetic confidence, the song has fans hooked. But what’s really got people talking is its unexpected nod to Bollywood royalty. Ever since the teaser dropped, listeners have been drawing parallels between the track’s intro and the Rani Anthem—a song from Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani (2023), composed by Pritam for Alia Bhatt’s character, Rani Chatterjee. The resemblance has sparked endless debates and excitement online.

Addressing the online buzz, Pritam took to Instagram to clear the air, explaining that while the names sound alike and there’s a slight similarity in one phrase, it doesn’t mean his song was copied. He pointed out that with the sheer volume of music being released today, overlaps are inevitable. Music, he emphasised, is all about creativity, artistic influence, and sometimes, pure coincidence. Artists often find themselves on the same wavelength without even realising it. Rather than tearing others down, he urged fans to celebrate artistry in all its forms. He wrapped up his message on a positive note, wishing JENNIE success with her new album.

Honestly, we couldn’t agree more. It’s refreshing to see two powerhouse artists—one from K-pop and one from Bollywood—unknowingly vibing on the same wavelength, proving just how universal music truly is. At the end of the day a fire beat is a fire beat and when it hits it just hits.
