India’s women’s cricket team scored a historic World Cup win on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in Navi Mumbai.

They earned huge praise from all over the country, plus a shoutout from PM Modi and Sundar Pichai. Modi called it a “spectacular win” and also said that victory would inspire future champions to take up sports bringing more pride to nation.

For Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, it reminded him of India’s classic wins in 1983 and 2011. He said it was a nail-biting final and congratulated the team for their incredible performances.

Behind India's historic win were three exceptional players. First of all, the Captain, Harmanpreet Kaur and her leadership skills. She was determined, had full clarity and guided the team throughout. Also in the semi-finals, despite battling cramps, she scored 89 runs.

Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma were the other two brilliant all-round performers contributing to India’s stunning comeback. Verma scored 87 runs from 78 balls, helping India reach a total of 298 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Verma was not even part of the playing sqad. She was added back in the finals due to another players injury.

Sharma, on the other hand helped set a strong total by scoring 58 runs, and then taking 5 wickets for 39 runs to dismantle South Africa’s batting lineup in the final.

Sharma also earned the Player of the Tournament award because she was the first player to score over 200 runs and take more than 20 wickets in a single World Cup edition. She has a total of 215 runs and 22 wickets.

India’s win at the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup is bound to get more people excited about women’s cricket and inspire a lot of young girls to grab a bat.
