Adding chaat masala or spices into soda for that extra kick isn’t exactly new. But Shan seems to have thought, why not make it official? So he decided to introduce Masala Cola.
The brand has taken it a step further by turning these familiar flavours into a fizzy drink range. While something like Chaat Masala cola might feel like a safe bet, some of the other flavours definitely take things to another level.
Shan has always been associated with cooking, but now, they have decided to take a creative turn by turning something nostalgic into a soft drink.
The new range includes some unexpected flavours:
Tandoori Masala Cola – spicy and bold
Butter Chicken Masala Cola – creamy and savoury
Chaat Masala Cola – tangy and zesty
Pani Puri Masala Cola – sharp and refreshing
You can tell they’re going for that “this feels known but also new” kind of experience. As they said, they’re reinventing similar flavours but changing them just enough to make them interesting again.
Also, since fusion flavours have been trending in the last few years, Shan has stepped into the trend with its own take on masala-infused cola.
I would be willing to try some of the drinks mentioned above, for instance, the Chaat Masala or Pani Puri, but Butter Chicken as a soft drink with its creamy and savoury flavour makes it hard for me to wrap my head around.
The drinks have not been officially launched yet, but Shan states that they will soon be available across select retailers in the US and Canada.
Masala Cola could either be the next big trend or just a fun experiment. We'll know this when people actually try it. But yes, this does prove that the food and beverage industries are definitely becoming more creative and innovative.
