The buzziest word around town these days is “burn out”.
Tired of always taking the same route to work, tired of your routine day in and day out? The answer is simple: vacation.
I often find myself fantasising about holidays somewhere far away, where the only sound to be heard for miles is that of the waves crashing against the shore. Utter relaxation.
But how do you find that same sense of calm in the raucous bustle of Bangkok’s city centre?
Away Bangkok Sukhumvit, a new offering from Cross Hotels Group, has risen to the challenge. With a motto that promises “an escape from everyday life,” Away Bangkok Sukhumvit helps travellers find their own slice of tranquillity tucked away in the heart of the city.
From November 25–26, Masala had the pleasure of experiencing this serenity first-hand at the “Escape Everyday Life: Disconnect to Reconnect” media familiarisation trip at Away Bangkok Sukhumvit.
Stepping into the hotel, the sound of the outside world quickly faded away as the sliding doors shut behind me. Bathed in hues of marble and beige, the lobby offered a strong first impression.
The large windows brought in enough natural light to keep the lights dim and flooded the space with warmth.
After checking in, we received a tour of the hotel. With eight floors and 75 guest rooms, you can choose the accommodation that suits your needs.
The deluxe room, where I stayed, comes with either twin beds or a king bed and is very spacious. With its open layout, daybed, and balcony, the deluxe room is optimised for maximum relaxation. Other room types include the superior room, the suite, and the family suite.
The hotel tour concluded with a quaint tea-blending session. There were several different types of teas to choose from and an array of dried flowers and herbs to sprinkle into the custom teabags.
I chose the black tea leaves with dried jasmine flowers and a slice of dried lemon for the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.
The next morning, Away Bangkok Sukhumvit stuck true to their promise of an escape from everyday life by hosting a healing sound bath by the pool, courtesy of practitioner @soulglowwithmai.
The city was serene in its silence as a cool breeze blew through the outdoor pool on the sixth floor.
The city views contrasted well with the pink-painted walls and the splashes of green from the heliconia psittacorum, providing the vision of a tropical escape right in the heart of the city.
In addition to the pool, Away Bangkok Sukhumvit also has a gym on the sixth floor, so you never have to compromise on “leg day.”
After detoxing with the aid of echoing chimes and gongs, a delicious breakfast spread awaited at Twenty/22 Bar and Restaurant on the lobby floor.
The breakfast spread was no less international than the poolside dinner from the night before. Dishes ranged from fruit salads and a vast selection of breads to more filling meals like baked mac and cheese and stir-fried wheat noodles.
After such pampering, it was difficult to bid adieu to this getaway.
