We know, we know. There are plenty of rituals and customs that you must memorise when Diwali appears on the calendar. What’s one more small ritual in the growing list you already have? Look no further for the most comprehensive list to make this Diwali 2026 most auspicious for your zodiac sign.

ARIES ♈︎

Do: Light a ghee diya at the northeast corner of your house. Wear red clothing.

Don’t: Try to rush. Slowly clean up the altar and go through the rituals with all the time in the world.

TAURUS ♉︎

Do: Place a small plate of freshly cooked sweet rice at the altar. Wear yellow marigold or saffron.

Don’t: Cling to unnecessary attachments. If you have excess offerings, share them with your neighbours and friends.

GEMINI ♊︎

Do: Note down a few things you are grateful for, keep them in mind while the puja is taking place. Wear bright orange.

Don’t: Get distracted. Try to get through the entire night with a single intention in mind.

CANCER ♋︎

Do: Set a particularly meaningful family photo on the altar alongside the idols. Fabrics in white jasmine and silver are encouraged.

Don’t: Hold grudges. Use the occasion of festivities to let go of old grievances.

LEO ♌︎

Do: Fan of diyas? Great. Light a small line of them by the doorway. Colours red and gold are preferable.

Don’t: Over-perform. Try and shine your brilliant light on a shyer friend or family member. Remember, sharing is caring.

VIRGO ♍︎

Do: Clean all puja items and place them symmetrically on the altar before the puja takes place. A light green colour will only add to your radiance.

Don’t: Get nitpicky. Sometimes a simple ritual must take its course. It is better than overcorrection

LIBRA ♎︎

Do: Just like the symbol of scales that represent your sign, adorn your doorway symmetrically with rangoli and two lamps. Sport baby blues and powder pinks.

Don’t: Procrastinate. Set a tight schedule and try to adhere to it.

SCORPIO ♏︎

Do: Find a quiet corner for yourself to meditate before the rituals begin. Centre yourself and, only then, light a diya. Wear darker colours, extra points for deep red florals.

Don’t: Interpret omens with too much rigour, keep the vibes practical.

SAGITTARIUS ♐︎

Do: Redecorate your altar with a new cloth or some new idolatry. Maybe fabric in the colours of purple and royal blue.

Don’t: Promise too much. In your desire to please everyone, you may end up proposing things you can’t fulfill.

CAPRICORN ♑︎

Do: Scribble an intention, financial or otherwise, and fold it up before placing it underneath a diya on the altar. Look luminescent by wearing either grey or dark brown while doing it.

Don’t: Overplan. Thinking of every possible outcome may overwhelm your guests.

AQUARIUS ♒︎

Do: Donate some of your time to volunteering for a local charity without expecting any applause. For the occasion, either electric blue or turquoise will do.

Don’t: Try to intellectualise everything. Some things can’t be explained. Just live in the moment.

PISCES ♓︎

Do: Fill a small bowl of water with fresh flowers by an already lit lamp. The colours sea-green and soft white are best.

Don’t: Start building romantic notions off one small encounter. Ground yourself by helping clear the altar offerings and distributing them amongst family and guests.
