The Thai-Indian community continues to play an important role in strengthening cultural, business, and diplomatic ties between Thailand and India. From new leadership appointments and diplomatic developments to major cultural events and international gatherings, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year. Here is a look at some of the latest updates and upcoming highlights from across the community.
Chuan Thakur has handed over leadership of the Indian Association of Thailand (IAT) to Nikorn Sachdev, who brings with him a long history within the organisation, previously serving as Executive Director and Chairman of its Youth Forum.
Beyond the IAT, Nikorn has built a career spanning business, politics, and public service, including roles as Advisor to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and to the Secretariat Office of the Prime Minister.
India has a new face at its Bangkok Embassy. H.E. Puneet Agrawal, a 1997-batch Indian Foreign Service officer with postings across Berlin, Thimphu, Vienna, and Hong Kong, assumed charge as Ambassador to Thailand on 2 May 2026.
His appointment comes as the two countries deepen a strategic partnership formalised in April 2025, spanning trade, maritime security, and regional connectivity.
One of India’s most beloved voices is coming to Bangkok! Shreya Ghoshal will perform at UOB LIVE at EmSphere on 31 July 2026 as part of her worldwide “The Unstoppable Tour”, a global run that has already taken her across Australia, the UK, and Southeast Asia.
Audiences can look forward to an evening of soulful melodies, romantic ballads, and Bollywood favourites.
Bangkok will take centre stage in the global Sindhi calendar later this year as the Thai Sindhi Association (TSA) and the Alliance of Global Sindhi Associations co-host the Sindhi Sammelan 2026, marking the event’s milestone 50th anniversary.
Taking place from 4–6 December 2026 at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park, the three-day event will bring the worldwide Sindhi community together under the theme of “Connect, Celebrate, Collaborate”, with a dedicated Youngsters Night on the programme.
