The World Is Your Classroom: Inside AIHM with Dr. Natasha Doowa

Dr. Natasha Doowa explains why AIHM Bangkok is preparing Thai Indian students for global hospitality careers.

Masala Editorial

For Indian families settled in Thailand, one of the biggest questions is: where should my child build their future? We sat down with Dr. Natasha Doowa — lecturer, event strategist, and educator at AIHM Bangkok to find out why this is a moment of real opportunity for Thai Indian students, right here in Bangkok.

Thailand is one of the world's great tourism powerhouses, and for Indian families already embedded in its hospitality and business landscape, that spells opportunity. Hotels, resorts, airlines, and global food and beverage brands constantly seek well-trained professionals with an understanding of both markets. A degree from an internationally recognised Bangkok institution doesn't just open local doors. It opens doors in Singapore, Dubai, London, and Mumbai.

AIHM, the Asian Institute of Hospitality & Management, is one of Bangkok's leading international institutions for hospitality and business education. What sets it apart is its insistence that learning happens through doing: students plan real events, lead real projects, and engage with industry professionals from their very first semester.

We sat down with Dr. Natasha Doowa, bilingual educator, event strategist and a proud member of Thailand's Indian community, to find out what makes AIHM the right choice right now, and why the values Indian families hold dear thrive inside AIHM's classrooms.

Q: Why is hospitality management such a strong career choice right now?

Thailand is one of the world's leading tourism destinations. Hotels, resorts, airlines, event companies, and global food and beverage brands are constantly looking for well-trained professionals. For Indian students especially, there is a strong advantage. India and Thailand share deep cultural and business ties, and professionals who understand both markets are highly valued internationally.

Whether your child wants to work in Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai, London or Mumbai, a hospitality degree from a recognised international institution like AIHM opens doors worldwide.

Q: Dr. Natasha, tell us a little about yourself and your journey to AIHM.

Growing up within the Thai Indian community in a hospitality-oriented environment, that background led me naturally into hospitality and events, and over time into teaching, where I could combine industry experience with education in a meaningful way. Over the last decade I taught at several universities in Bangkok, but I truly believe destiny brought me to AIHM. From the moment I joined, I felt a strong alignment between my own values and the institution's vision.

Our students come from Thailand, India, China, Russia, Myanmar and many other countries across the globe, and that diversity is not just celebrated here. It becomes part of the learning experience itself.

"At AIHM, diversity is not just something we celebrate. It becomes part of how students learn, think, and grow."

— Dr. Natasha Doowa, AIHM Bangkok

Q: What does a typical AIHM student look like when they graduate?

Confident. That is the single word I would use. They walk differently. They speak with clarity. They know how to manage people, events and expectations in any room, in any culture.

The 21st-century skills we focus on, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity, are not buzzwords at AIHM. They are embedded into every assignment, every class discussion, every project. A graduate from AIHM is someone an employer trusts with responsibility from day one.

Q: For Indian families who may not know AIHM, what is it and why should they pay attention?

AIHM is one of Thailand's leading international institutions for hospitality and business education. We offer a Certificate in International Hotel Administration, a BBA in Global Hospitality Management, and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Hospitality Management, ideal for anyone wanting to enter the industry with a clear professional edge.

Our programmes are built around real-world practice. Students graduate not just with a degree, but with hands-on experience, professional networks, and a genuine understanding of how global business works.

"We do not want students to memorise theory. We want them to graduate with confidence, professionalism, and the ability to lead in the real world."

— Dr. Natasha Doowa, AIHM Bangkok

Q: Any final words for Indian parents who are considering AIHM for their children?

At AIHM, we do not simply educate students. We invest in their growth, their confidence and their future. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is watching students grow into capable, confident individuals ready to take on the world. That is what we are truly here for.

"Education is more than a degree. It is the foundation of confidence, opportunity, and future success."
