7 Times Bollywood Celebrities Turned the Tables with Savage Comebacks

Narisa Sethi

Fame has its price, and one of them is enduring the bizarre curiosity of the press or show hosts. Still, these Bollywood stars had no problem firing back. Here are seven savage comebacks that turned awkward interviews into legendary moments.

1. Kangana Ranaut - on Nepotism Koffee with Karan

When Karan Johar asked Kangana, "Who has given you an unnecessary attitude in the industry?", she came up with the most savage reply that felt like a slap on his face. "You, Karan."... and goes on telling him that he's a Bollywood mafia, the flag-bearer of nepotism, the one who made fun of her English and tried to sabotage her career. And Saif? His face was everything, half-amused, half-shocked, like “Did that really just happen?”

2. Priyanka Chopra on Feminism

An interviewer said, "This is a question for a feminist, Priyanka.. I have never seen you complaining about an abuse of a man.... where is the equality in that?"

She straightforwardly responds, "Sir, equality isn’t about muscles — it’s about mindset. We’re not asking to lift 200 pounds; we’re asking for equal respect and opportunity." She implies that a 50-year-old man with kids doesn't get questioned on how he manages his career with 3 kids, while a woman in the same position gets questioned. Hence proving her point of why feminism exists.

3. Shah Rukh Khan - Karan Johar's Rapid Fire Round

During one of the most iconic Koffee with Karan rapid-fire rounds, Karan Johar asked Shah Rukh Khan whether he is the best actor in the country, to which he responded, "In the universe".

The question is followed by whether Kajol was the best actress in the country. He again replied, “In the universe.” And what would he say to Juhi, Aishwarya, Madhuri, and Sushmita then? He says, “There are more galaxies beyond the universe.”

Karan goes on asking, "An Indian film you wish you were a part of?" SRK says, "Sholay". And then Karan follows with, "An Indian film you wish you weren't a part of?" He says, 'Kuch Kuch hota hai,' and you can almost see Karan’s face fall—like, ouch.

4. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - On David Letterman Show

In her interview on The Late Show with David Letterman, Aishwarya was asked the question: “Do you still stay with your parents and is it normal in India?”

She gave a savage reply, saying, It’s fine to live with your parents because it’s also common in India. We don’t have to take appointments from the parents to meet for dinner.” A classy shut-down, turning the question back with cultural context.

5. Aamir Khan on Gender Pay Equality in Bollywood

When Aamir asked why Bollywood actresses don’t get paid as much as actors, Aamir Khan gave a calm but cuttingly logical response.

He explained that pay in the film industry isn’t about gender but about market pull. As he put it, “If I’m paid 10 rupees, it’s because I can bring that much back and more. If Rani can fill in more seats than I can, she’ll be paid more than I can — 100%.”

What he did was he flipped the question into a clear-eyed take on economics rather than emotion.

6. Katrina Kaif - Killing them Softly

When it comes to savage comebacks, Katrina is a total badass. She proves you don’t have to get messy to make a point. She is the type of person who will roast you politely and still walk away like a queen.

At an award show, Katrina was being mocked under the guise of a compliment, but Katrina turned it into a moment. The host said, “Katrina speaks really good Punjabi,” and she just smiled and shot back, “Yeah, just like you belly dance really well.”

Katrina doesn’t hold back, even with Shah Rukh. When asked about working with him, she simply said, “It was Good,” a perfect comeback to when he described his experience performing alongside her with one understated word — ‘gentle.’

Also, when someone from the press told her she was lucky to be the first person Shah Rukh Khan kissed on screen, she confidently said, “Who says I’m the lucky one? He’s the lucky one!”

Akshay Kumar - Housefull 5 Payment

Akshay Kumar, the Khiladi of Bollywood, had the funniest yet most savage response when someone asked him whether he took money and how much for Housefull 5. He shot back, “Even if I took money from Sajid, why should I tell you? Are you my nephew?”

Then, he playfully admitted that yes, he was paid and he was paid well. The film’s made on a great budget, and he had a lot of fun and ended with, “It’s a happy day… want to raise your rate?”

Those comebacks were epic, right? But beyond that sass, these stars have certain habits they never compromise on — the ones that keep them at the top. Hit the link below for the Top 10 Bollywood stars and their non-negotiable habits.
