An inspiring event took place at the Embassy of India, Bangkok, on the morning of the 26th of January 2021 in celebration of the 72nd Republic Day of India. A multitude of guests from across Thailand’s Indian diaspora were in attendance, both in person and online, while carefully adhering to social distancing procedures. Around 120 Indian nationals, Indians living overseas, and friends of the Indian community participated in the event in person, while thousands more viewed the event live on Facebook.

The event was set in motion with the unfurling of the National Flag by Ambassador of India to Thailand, H.E. Suchitra Durai. This was followed by a moving rendition of the Indian National Anthem and the Honourable President’s Address to the Nation, delivered by the Ambassador. The event also featured a short cultural programme by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre Bangkok, Indian Women’s Club, and Northeast India Association.

A multitude of different Thai-Indian associations and groups were present, contributing culturally to the proceedings, and were commended for their past efforts in strengthening Thai-Indian relations. Overall, the 72nd Republic Day of India was a culturally rich and positive event that saw participants paying their respects to the past, while casting an optimistic eye toward the future.
