Style Evolution: Tiger Shroff

His memorable looks (the few times he’s worn a shirt, anyway.)

By Ashima Sethi

1) 2014

In his debut film Heropanti (2014) Tiger played the character of Bablu, who had to brave countless challenges, and instances of gang violence in order
to win over the woman of his dreams, Dimpy (Kriti Sanon). While the film received lukewarm reviews from critics and cinemagoers, Tiger’s performance actually received decent accolades. However, the same cannot be said for his character’s outfits, particularly this ski jacket and aviator sunglasses combo from the song sequence “Rabba” that makes him look more like a B-list wannabe than a leading man.

2) 2016

On the red carpet to promote the martial arts film Baaghi (2016) with Shraddha Kapoor, Tiger looked significantly different from his 2014 avatar. But whether his fashion sense had improved by this point remains a different question altogether. The actor donned a poorly-fitted purple plaid suit jacket (which nobody should own, to be honest), paired with a patterned pocket square, plain white vest, grungy jeans and black sneakers. This resulted in a truly lopsided outfit, where the top half of his ensemble was red-carpet ready but the bottom half just didn’t get the memo.

3) 2018

Speaking of lopsided outfits, remember when Tiger wore this disaster to director Sajid Nadiadwala’s office? Well, we’d rather forget about it, too. There’s so much going on in this ensemble that we’re going to have to break it down into pieces. One: the grey and navy suit jacket looks like the designer ran out of fabric and had to improvise last minute. Two: The faded jeans do not complement the jacket, and the choice to fold them just adds insult to injury. Three: the teal Onitsuka Tiger sneakers just…do not work. And four: Don’t even get us started on the red cloth arm-band. WHY?

4) NOW

Thankfully after years of fashion blunders, we’re happy to report that Tiger has finally hit his stride and is now often seen walking the red carpet and attending movie premieres in sophisticated ensembles. At the most recent Star Screen Awards red carpet, the actor looked dapper in a tailored navy suit worn with his trademark button-down white shirt and classic brown dress shoes. The look is clean and crisp, and the addition of the patterned pocket square adds a fun pop of colour. We love it!
