Teddy’s Bigger Burgers definitely lives up to its slogan: “Where bigger really is better!”

By Prerna Kishore

Bangkok is constantly in the news for having the best international franchises come to town, and Teddy’s Bigger Burgers is no exception. Originally hailing from Honolulu, Hawaii, the American chain offers fresh, made to order comfort foods with a secret ingredient of a Special Sauce that gives every burger a distinct kick. The outlet is located on the ground floor of Gateway Ekamai directly connected to BTS Ekamai, allowing diners to hop on over for a quick burger fix.

Surrounded by dark brick walls, the interiors are stylishly decorated with surfboards, flamed torches and paddles. In the middle lies a classic American-style neon sign that livens up the open space, making diners feel like they are part of an outdoor beach house.

Food and Drink

A true foodie knows that any burger spot is incomplete without its appetisers, better known as the sides. Highly recommended is its Cheezzee fries (B75), which makes a good first impression with its melt-in-your-mouth cheese poured over crispy soft fries. This gooey starter is served in a hot mini skillet, and pairs well with all the different burger choices available on the menu.

Another equally satisfying option is the Tater tots (B75). Fried to a golden brown crisp, the well-portioned appetiser is soft in every bite. Meanwhile, the crunchy Onion rings (B75) is a better alternative for those craving a heavier meal. If traditional sides are not what you desire, then opt for the Cheeeese meatball au gratin (B125). This hearty dish is served with tender pork meatballs that complement the tomato sauce well. There are also a variety of different meats to choose from, if you favour other proteins.

Has your mouth ever watered as you got a whiff of a delicious burger? Well, it definitely will at Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, as each bun is prepared with a single patty that is grilled to the right degree — not too raw or burnt for your taste — its juices soaking into the bun for extra flavour. With the basics done right, the restaurant finishes off each burger with an innovative ingredient that makes it standout from other burger chains in Bangkok.

This is the case with the Pork Hawaiian burger (B195), as the butter-soft meat is prepared well and tossed between two soft buns, making this dish a juicy favourite. You can also add fresh pineapples and teriyaki sauce for an extra 30 baht. Another burger worth mentioning is the Monster double beef burger (B360), prepared with top-quality 5 oz. meat, and a generous serving of lettuce, onion, tomatoes, pickle and their famous Special Sauce.

However, if you are not a meat person, worry not as Teddy’s has other options too. The Fish fillet burger (B195) is definitely worth a try, as the breaded texture of the fish is succulent and flavourful.

No meal is complete without an order of one of their signature colourful drinks. Aloha Hawaii (B95), made from orange juice, soda and fresh berries, is the perfect cooling drink on a hot humid day. Meanwhile, Deep Ocean (B95) is a fizzier pick with a refreshing dose of berries. Blended with different colours, this soda-esque combination makes you feel like you are right on the beach.
