Sonam Mehta gives you five DIY face masks for bright skin from within (your house).
With wedding season just around the corner, you’ve probably got 100 things to do, from making sure you don’t repeat clothes in front of the same crowd, to organising jewellery, shoes, and makeup to match each outfit. The stress of prepping, coupled with late nights, inches of foundation, and one tequila too many, does a number on your skin: whether it’s dullness, or dreaded acne, you’ve got to protect yourself.
We’ve gathered five classic desi face masks and scrubs to maintain your Bollywood babe aesthetic. Not only are they convenient (you’ll find most of the components right in your kitchen!), but they’re also natural, so they’ll be kind to your skin in the short and long run. So, put up your feet and turn on Netflix while you let these ayurvedic solutions work their magic.
Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth) With Milk And Honey Face Pack
This is your go-to face pack for an instant glow. Combine two tablespoons of Fuller’s earth, three to four tablespoons of raw milk, one teaspoon of honey, and a few drops of rose water. Mix it into a smooth paste. Apply a thick layer on your face and neck. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, dip two cotton pads into rose water and place them on your eyelids for total rejuvenation.
Adds radiance, removes oil and dirt, leaves skin firm and moisturised
Besan (Gram Flour) With Haldi (Turmeric) And Curd Face Pack
This is an age-old remedy that’s been a hit in Indian homes for generations because it’s so effective. Take one tablespoon of besan, add to it a pinch of haldi and two tablespoons of curd (homemade is best). Apply a thick layer, let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. This face pack doesn’t dry out since it is made with curd, so just wash it off when you’re ready.
(Removes tan, brightens, reduces acne and pigmentation)
Oatmeal, Almond, Milk And Honey Scrub
Combine two to three tablespoons of powdered oats, four or five crushed almonds, one tablespoon of honey and a little milk until you get a semi-smooth consistency. It should be coarse and thick for best effect. Take a handful and scrub in circular motions all over your face. Wash with warm water, and pat dry (rubbing your skin with a towel may irritate it).
(Exfoliates dullness, nourishes, calms sensitive and stressed skin)
Rice Flour And Curd Scrub
If you don’t have rice flour or powdered rice at home, just grind some raw rice in a food processor. Mix equal parts rice flour and curd; you can add a pinch of haldi for its anti-inflammatory properties. Gently scrub your face in circular motions, and the coarse mixture will remove any dead skin cells without being too harsh.
(Exfoliates, brightens, softens skin)
Papaya, Lime Juice And Honey Face Pack
You can use this as a scrub or a pack. Make a pulp out of a few pieces of papaya, then add a teaspoon of honey and a few drops of lime. Apply onto your face and either let sit for fifteen minutes, or scrub in gentle, circular motions for added exfoliation. This simple remedy will refresh your complexion.
(Deep cleanses, lightens skin, reduces pigmentation)
